Le pape François est toujours attentif à la valeur de la communication. Il est conscient qu'il est nécessaire d'éviter une forme de communication qui soit simplement instrumentale et qui ne contribue pas au développement et au renforcement de la communauté. Nous devons reconnaître que les réseaux sociaux, d'une part, nous aident à mieux nous connecter, à nous redécouvrir et à nous aider les uns les autres. Dans Fratelli Tutti, le pape François fait également référence au thème de la technologie, mais se concentre sur la nécessité d'être attentif à cette question. Nous pouvons disposer d'une bonne technologie et de nouveaux appareils mobiles mis à jour ; nous pouvons avoir d'excellentes connexions internet, et pourtant toutes ces réalités ne garantissent pas une bonne communication. En fait, avec tous ces facteurs en place, nous pourrions encore être isolés : Aujourd'hui, nous pouvons reconnaître que "nous nous sommes nourris de rêves de splendeur et de grandeur, et nous avons fini par consommer la distraction, l'insularité et la solitude" (FT, 33). L'encyclique nous rappelle également que pour accomplir notre mission de manière efficace, nous devons entrer dans une dynamique de véritable dialogue, c'est-à-dire un dialogue au sein de notre communauté, un dialogue avec la réalité et un dialogue avec les pauvres que nous servons.
