El Papa Francisco tiene siempre presente el valor de la comunicación. Es consciente de que hay que evitar una forma de comunicación que sea simplemente instrumental y que no contribuya al desarrollo y fortalecimiento de la comunidad. Es necesario reconocer cómo las redes sociales, por un lado, nos ayudan a conectarnos mejor, a redescubrirnos y a ayudarnos mutuamente. En Fratelli Tutti, el Papa Francisco también se refiere al tema de la tecnología, pero se centra en la necesidad de estar atentos a este asunto. Podemos tener buena tecnología y nuevos dispositivos móviles actualizados; podemos tener excelentes conexiones a Internet, y sin embargo todas esas realidades no garantizan una buena comunicación. De hecho, con todos esos factores podemos seguir aislados: Hoy podemos reconocer que "nos alimentamos de sueños de esplendor y grandeza, y acabamos consumiendo distracción, insularidad y soledad" (FT, 33). L a encíclica nos recuerda también la realidad de que, para cumplir nuestra misión de manera eficaz, debemos entrar en una dinámica de verdadero diálogo; es decir, diálogo dentro de nuestra comunidad, diálogo con la realidad y diálogo con los pobres a quienes servimos.
