San Vicente de Paúl: Por una paz justa y legítima

Este artículo examina a San Vicente de Paúl como una persona comprometida con una paz justa y legítima en medio de los violentos conflictos de la Europa del siglo XVII. Aunque el término «paz» aparece con poca frecuencia en los escritos de Vicente, el estudio demuestra que la paz era fundamental en su espiritualidad, su acción pastoral y su visión teológica. Viviendo en una época marcada por las guerras religiosas, los disturbios civiles y la miseria social generalizada, Vicente entendía la paz principalmente como un bien espiritual arraigado en la conversión del corazón, la oración y la caridad. Rechazando el pacifismo ingenuo, se basó en las Escrituras y en la tradición de Agustín y Tomás de Aquino para afirmar una paz fundamentada en la justicia, la misericordia y la defensa de los pobres. Su «guerra justa» era la lucha incansable por proteger a los más vulnerables, tanto a través de obras concretas de caridad como de valientes apelaciones a las autoridades políticas y eclesiásticas. El artículo destaca la convicción de Vicente de que la verdadera paz comienza en el corazón humano y se irradia hacia la sociedad, haciendo de la oración, la formación de la conciencia y la solidaridad caminos indispensables hacia una paz auténtica y duradera.
