This study reflects on the call to become a “Church poor for the poor,” as emphasized by Pope Francis in Evangelii Gaudium, through the lens of Vincentian spirituality. It distinguishes between “the poor” and “poverty,” proposing an anthropological-theological understanding in which every human being is fundamentally a recipient of God’s gratuitous gifts, called to share them in love and solidarity. Inspired by Vincent de Paul, the paper highlights a spirituality rooted in the mysteries of the Trinity and the Incarnation, where self-giving love becomes the foundation of authentic service to the poor. It critiques the “globalization of indifference” and the structural causes of poverty, calling for personal and ecclesial conversion. Drawing from concrete contexts such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar, the study proposes the Vincentian charism as a prophetic invitation to courageous ecclesial reform, centered on charity, dignity, and the integral liberation of the poor.
