One of the strong convictions expressed by the Superior General of the Congregation of the Mission, Father Tomaž MAVRIČ, during the 43rd General Assembly to revitalize the Vincentian charism at the dawn of the fifth centenary of the founding of the CM is this: Over the next six years, I fervently hope that the spirit of Mission Ad Gentes will continue to grow. I hope that the Provinces, Vice-Provinces, and Regions, which have many positive responses from young people, those with many vocations, will be ready to open new missions in countries where we are not yet present. Since the advent of the Second Vatican Council, the decree Ad Gentes on activity remains one of the essential documents on missionary reflection. As we know, this decree insists on the missionary nature of the whole Church. With the new changes in the world, we realize today that the notion of territory as a “geographical region” for carrying out the mission no longer holds water. The permanent concern of the mission is centered more on the human, on his condition, than on a geographical space. In Africa, Latin America, and Asia, while keeping the catechumenal aspect, the Ad Gentes mission also wants to be a mission of liberation and transformation of the social condition.
