This article explores Saint Vincent de Paul's insistence on cultivating a profound devotion to the Most Holy Trinity within the Congregation of the Mission. Rooted in the founding papal bull Salvatoris Nostri (1633), Vincent saw this devotion not as theological speculation but as a vital element for salvation and missionary commitment. He proposed three practical paths: heartfelt acts of faith, daily prayers and pious works, and catechetical instruction among the poor. Influenced by Augustinian and Ignatian spirituality, Vincent emphasized the affections of the heart over intellectual study. For him, knowledge of the Trinity and the Incarnation was essential for salvation, especially for the poor, whom he believed must be taught these mysteries with clarity and compassion. Drawing on Thomistic theology, he advocated for the most secure doctrinal path, ensuring no soul is lost through ignorance. This devotion was not only spiritual but pastoral—a call to evangelize by teaching the central mysteries of the faith.
