While many members of the Vincentian family are familiar with aspects of the life and spirituality of St Vincent de Paul, they may not know what happened in the years following his death. This article aims to briefly describe the process that led to Vincent’s canonization on June 13th 1737. It focuses on the funeral oration of bishop Maupas du Tour, the three-volume biography of Bishop Louis Abelly and the role of Bishop Prospero Lambertini author of De servorum Dei beatificatione et beatorum canonizatione. He was involved, before his elevation as Pope Benedict XIV in processing the cause of St Vincent de Paul, and had interesting things to say about it in his monumental treatise.
